Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged, and now, more details about how Kelce proposed are being revealed.
Ed Kelce, Travis’s father, shared that his son actually popped the question a few weeks before the official Instagram announcement on August 26.
“Travis actually did the proposal maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,” Ed told Cleveland’s News 5. He added that Travis initially wanted to plan “some grand thing, to make it a big special event,” but Ed encouraged him to keep it simple. “I told him repeatedly, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”
Ultimately, the outlet shared that Travis proposed in his home garden in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
“He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine.’ They got out there, and that’s when he asked her,” Ed shared.
The couple then FaceTimed their families to share the news. Ed was at a Philadelphia Eagles practice when he received the call from the newly engaged couple.
“I got a FaceTime call from them, and as soon as I saw the FaceTime, I saw it was Travis, and then I saw Taylor there with him, I knew what they were going to say, and they let us know,” he said.
Ed also shared that watching the couple be “crazy about each other” is “truly kinda neat.” He added: “They’re just two young people very much in love.”
Swift shared photos from the garden proposal with the caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨.” The post now has almost 30 million likes (and counting).
