According to a local media outlet, the passenger noticed the acronym “RIP,” commonly used as an abbreviation for “Rest in Peace,” on another traveler’s cell phone screen.
Considering the message as potentially threatening, he immediately informed the crew of flight AA1847 , which had taken off from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.
The situation was confirmed by the Puerto Rico Office of Explosives and Public Safety, which reported the plane's return to San Juan as a precautionary measure.
