Actress, writer and journalist Isabel Pisano died this Monday, August 25, at the age of 77 , in the luxury residence in Madrid , where she had been cared for for several years as she suffered from Alzheimer's .

Born in Montevideo (Uruguay) in 1948 and living in Spain for decades, Pisano made her acting debut in the film Pampa Salvaje (1966), directed by Hugo Fregonese and with music by Waldo de los Ríos , whom she married shortly after.

It didn't take long for her to move away from the celebrated Argentine pianist and composer to go to Rome to establish her career as a performer, working with Federico Fellini in Casanova (1974) and, already in Spain, with Bigas Lunas in Bilbao (1978), a film in which she played a prostitute trapped in Leo 's obsessions.

He also left his mark on cinema with Leopoldo Torre Nilsson in Boquitas pintadas (1978), with León Klimovsky in Trauma (1978), with Diego Santillán in Una sombra en la oscuridad (1979) or with Gonzalo García-Pelayo , in the avant-garde, destabilising film Corridas de alegría (1982).

The Madrid Press Association (APM), through its profile on the social network X, has referred to her as a person who "broke the mold." The truth is that acting was not enough for Isabel Pisano, who decided to enter the world of letters. First as a war correspondent , covering numerous conflicts in Palestine, Chad, Lebanon and Bosnia for different media, including EL MUNDO, and magazines. In 1993, she was the only journalist who was involved in the bombings of Mosul and Basra, in Iraq.

She was awarded the medal of the Ministry of Culture of Spain and was selected " best journalist of the year 2002 " by the Association of Information Magazines thanks to her international reports in the magazine Marie Claire .

His literary output also had a great impact, gaining popularity with the publication of Yo puta (I, a whore) (2001), an international bestseller for which he participated as a screenwriter, and Yo terrorista (I, a terrorist ) (2004). He also shared his experiences with Waldo de los Ríos in the pages of El amado fantasma (The Beloved Ghost) (2002).

But she undoubtedly became world-famous for having been Yasser Arafat's lover . In 1991, the Palestinian leader asked the journalist to stay with him forever, as she reminded him of the woman he lost in an attack. Two books emerged from that relationship: Alone with Arafat (1997) and Yasser Arafat: The Passion of a Leader (2006). Her latest work is The Sept Papyrus (2009), a historical work.

Her personality, to continue breaking the mold, led her to participate in the second edition of the reality show Gran Hermano VIP (2005), where she was the seventh to be expelled after 56 days of living together.

Among his other awards, the Special Mention of the Jury of the 1997 RAI Ilaria Alpi Prize , the City of Valencia Prize , and the ARi 1999 honorable mention are worth mentioning. He was a founding member of the Aix of Peace in Brussels, along with Nobel Peace Prize laureates Pérez Esquivel and Al Baradei , Nobel Prize laureate for Literature José Saramago , and the president of the Voltaire Network, Thierry Meyssan .
