It won 3 Oscars and has just arrived on Prime Video: the film that was a box office hit and is a must-see.

There are stories that transcend the screen and films that become legendary for what happens both on and off set. The film that just landed on Prime Video is one of those examples of modern cinema: visually stunning and with a production so extreme it almost borders on the impossible. The film was a global phenomenon upon its release, swept awards season , and is now ready to captivate new viewers from their couches.
Set in a wild and inhospitable landscape, the film tells the epic story of a man's struggle to survive after being presumed dead. This is The Revenant , a survival drama directed by Mexican Alejandro González Iñárritu that dazzled critics and audiences in 2015.

Winner of three Oscars—including the coveted Best Actor award for Leonardo DiCaprio—this odyssey based on true events has returned to the conversation after its arrival on the Prime Video platform.
What's most striking about The Revenant isn't just its story, but the way it was brought to the big screen. Iñárritu decided to shoot it solely with natural light and in real locations, which made production extremely complicated. The result is visually striking, thanks to the work of cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, who earned his third consecutive Oscar for this work after Gravity and Birdman .

Leonardo DiCaprio, for his part, literally gave his all to this role . To embody the explorer Hugh Glass, the actor endured sub-zero temperatures, crawled through the snow with broken ribs (in the film), and even ate raw bison liver in a particularly talked-about scene. His performance was so intense that, after years of nominations, he finally won the golden statuette in 2016.
But filming was anything but a walk in the park. Extreme weather conditions forced the crew to change countries mid-shoot: they started in Canada, but the melting of ice caused by climate change forced them to move to southern Argentina to find similar landscapes. The low temperatures and grueling days caused several crew members to abandon the production, sometimes calling it "inhumane."

It wasn't easy convincing the entire cast either. Tom Hardy, who plays the story's antagonist, expressed reservations about the project from the start . Creative differences with the director soon emerged, but the result was so powerful that Hardy himself ended up getting a "Leo knows all" tattoo as a sign of respect for his co-star, after losing a bet.
The film, which was also a box office hit (grossing over $500 million worldwide), is inspired by the life of Hugh Glass, a 19th-century trapper who survived a bear attack and was abandoned by his companions.
Now, almost a decade after its premiere, Prime Video is bringing back this gem of modern cinema , a work that not only took its protagonists to the extreme, but also marked a before and after in DiCaprio's career.
