But Apa has always kept his relationships pretty private, very rarely confirming if he is or is not dating someone—though some fans have wondered if he and his co-star are dating in real life.

Apa did tease a connection with Cline off screen in August 20205, telling Cosmopolitan, “I’m not going to lie, I fell in love with Madelyn on this movie in many ways that, one, are part of my job, and two, happened because she’s an amazing person. You lean into it because it’s fucking fun, and it’s life, and I like feeling great.”

Apa was connected to another co-star in 2019, actress Britt Robertson, who he first met in 2017 on the set of A Dog’s Purpose. They were reportedly seen looking cuddly in July 2019, at Entertainment Weekly’s Comic-Con party, per Us Weekly. A source said that the couple was spotted “leaning in and kissing each other.” There weren’t any follow-ups, so whatever relationship happened must have fizzled out.

The actor was next linked to French model Clara Berry and he shared pictures confirming their relationship in February 2020. In May 2021, the couple announced that they were expecting a child together with a photo of Berry pregnant and Apa tagged over her belly. Their son, Sasha Vai Keneti Apa, was born in September 2021. In October of that year, Apa posted a video about drinking some of Berry’s breast milk and also referred to her as his “wife,” though they never confirmed a marriage.

In February 2024, Berry shared that she and Apa had split when as fan asked her during a Q&A if they were still together.
