Madrid welcomes Shawn Mendes with overwhelming passion after his break

Madrid welcomes Shawn Mendes with overwhelming passion after his break

A very worthy return for someone who had to leave the place he loved most: the stage. Shawn Mendes reconnects with a loyal audience who sing along from their seats to every song in this tribute to his 10-year career. Despite a few minor mishaps and hugs from his fans, Mendes reunites with Madrid, "the loudest audience," in the singer's own words.

In 2022, Shawn Mendes came to a screeching halt. He canceled his tour and focused on himself. Three years later, and with expectations sky-high, he returns to the Spanish capital to deliver a highly enjoyable concert, bursting with energy, power, and high-pitched screams . More than 12,000 people filled even the most hidden corners of the Movistar Arena and belted out songs like " There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back ," "Treat You Better," and "Monster"; three of the artist's most famous songs. With adrenaline sky-high, this blend of intimacy and power began.

The singer's most important songs weren't just the beginning of the show. They were the beginning, the middle, and the end. A " Senorita " without Camila Cabello (no one expected it, but you never know in this age of nostalgia); " Stitches " got even the fans who have been supporting the Canadian for a decade, ever since this song made him famous around the world, dancing; " Why Why Why ," the hit song from his latest album; and he ended with a bang with " In My Blood ," to bring a final smile to his fans' faces.

A crowd that went wild and couldn't keep its composure. It was curious to see from the stands the hundreds of chairs covering the dance floor, a space they broke as soon as they could to run toward the fences separating them from the stage. Although security didn't like it too much, they asked them to return to their seats and two minutes later returned to approach, and even hug, their pop idol.

Wearing a white cowboy hat, holding a Spanish flag, and a white flower, Mendes couldn't hide his happiness at the welcome from his fans. With a flawless smile, he earned shouts of "handsome, handsome, handsome." And he took the opportunity to practice his Spanish : "I don't have all the words, so be patient, but thank you so much for being here. I love you, Madrid."

The concert included a stumble that ended without major consequences beyond the laughter of the Canadian band. Musicians who accompany him on this tour, 'On the Road Again', which features some of the songs from his latest album ' Shawn ' (2024, Island Records), these being the least present in the 'setlist' of the night. To lower the energy, he played ' Isn't That Enough ', 'Heart of Gold' and 'If I Can't Have You'; a tranquility that lasted little since songs like 'Ruin' or ' Mercy ' overloaded the atmosphere so as not to enter, too much, into a valley of calm.

Six years after his last concert in Spain , Mendes continues to reach every corner with his music. Madrid marks the end of the tour that has taken the singer across Europe this August; in a month, he'll begin touring the United States. 17 songs that once again reconnect the public, the audience, and the gossip column with the young Canadian.
