The rare black moon that will occur on August 23, an astronomical event that occurs every 33 months

The rare black moon that will occur on August 23, an astronomical event that occurs every 33 months
On August 23, 2025, Earth's natural satellite will experience an unusual phase , which occurs every 33 months, and is therefore considered a rare astronomical event that has not yet been officially recognized by scientists.
Furthermore, this strange event will coincide with the arrival of the new moon, which is expected to grace the sky around 1:06 a.m. (local time in Colombia). However, the appearance of the celestial body depends on the timing of its appearance.

In this sense, it is possible that on some occasions the monthly black moon may appear, which refers to the presence of a second new moon in the same calendar month.
While the seasonal satellite occurs when there are four new moons in a single season, making the third of them the one named after the unusual astronomical event.
Why is it called a black moon?
This phenomenon is especially special for lovers of celestial bodies, because the cyclical changes tend to last around three months, but sometimes these periods include several spatial events.
Although the term for this phase is not recognized by astronomy, it is used to describe the peculiarity of the event , since the Moon is not usually visible from Earth during this time.

The apparent absence of the satellite is mainly due to the fact that, during the event, the Sun, the celestial body and the Earth align in such a way that the luminous side of the star faces away from human perspective.
Although its orbital position makes it impossible for people to observe and appreciate the strange appearance of the black moon, this lunar phase creates optimal conditions for observing other astronomical phenomena.

In fact, this time, thanks to the star's low illumination, the sky will be perfectly dark for enjoying the most famous meteor shower of the year, which will last until Sunday, August 24.
However, to see the show more clearly, it's best to find a location where your view won't be interrupted by artificial light from buildings.
