Why Zendaya Didn’t Join Tom Holland at Wimbledon

Tom Holland made a surprise appearance at Wimbledon yesterday, but his plus-one wasn’t his fiancée, Zendaya. Instead, Holland brought his younger brother Paddy.

The British actor previously attended a tennis match with Zendaya at the BNP Paribas Open in March 2024. So why didn’t Zendaya, who starred in the tennis film Challengers, join her partner at Wimbledon? The answer became clear today: Dune: Part Three just began production. Zendaya will reprise her role as Chani, so she couldn’t spend the afternoon watching tennis with Holland in London.

Holland’s brother had a great time, however, and shared photos of their afternoon on Instagram:

Zendaya and Holland haven’t made any red carpet appearances this year. At the start of 2025, Holland told Men’s Health why he prefers not to walk with his partner at her premieres. “Because it’s not my moment, it’s her moment, and if we go together, it’s about us,” he said.

The couple has kept their relationship as private as possible. As Zendaya explained to ELLE in summer 2023, “Parts of my life, I accept, are going to be public. I can’t not be a person and live my life and love the person I love. But also, I do have control over what I choose to share. It’s about protecting the peace and letting things be your own but also not being afraid to exist. You can’t hide. That’s not fun, either. I am navigating it more than ever now.”

Zendaya revealed her engagement to Holland at the Golden Globes in January. A source confirmed the happy news to People on January 6, saying Holland had wanted to propose to Zendaya “for a while.”

“He’s always been crazy about her,” the insider said. “He always knew she was the one. They have something very special.” They won’t get married quickly, the source added: “They will just enjoy things for now and won’t rush a wedding. They are both busy with work projects.”
