"Nice has become a bit of a place of pilgrimage for us": La Femme, back on the Amour beach stage, unveils her solo projects

"Nice has become a bit of a place of pilgrimage for us": La Femme, back on the Amour beach stage, unveils her solo projects

Comfortably installed in the retro and cozy decor of the Amour hotel in Nice, Sacha Got and Marlon Magnée, the two founders of the group La Femme, seem to feel right at home there.

"I really like the vibe, " confides keyboardist Marlon, before praising the "super friendly staff." This Thursday evening, surrounded by the other members of the group La Femme, they will be in concert, facing the water, on the hotel beach.

Far from conventional venues, this stage with its feet in the pebbles offers a unique sensory experience for the artists. "When we play, we sometimes take deep breaths and look at the beauty of the landscape," explains Marlon, before adding , "even if it's sometimes not easy for the equipment when it's in the sun all day, or in the rain..."

While their hearts naturally lean towards the Atlantic Ocean and their native Biarritz, they take a fresh and admiring look at the Mediterranean.

"Nice has become a bit of a place of pilgrimage for us. Even when we're not playing, we come to have a good time and enjoy ourselves," continues Marlon, before Sacha, guitarist, adds: "I love taking the train that runs along the coast, the landscapes are superb. It's another world, the Mediterranean, but it's beautiful too."

Between solo projects and linguistic explorations

At La Femme, musical creation is part of a perpetual exploration. Initially accustomed to composing in French, the group ventures, with Teatro Lúcido , released in November 2022, into an album sung exclusively in Spanish.

"All cultures have something to offer and it's interesting to crossbreed and try new things," says Sacha, between sips of sencha tea.

A linguistic curiosity that didn't stop there. In their latest album, Rock Machine , out since November 2024, the lyrics are, this time, in English.

After the language of Molière, that of Cervantes and that of Shakespeare, what will be next? "We have Italian which has been in the pipeline for a while. We are also thinking about Japanese and Vietnamese, we say that Russian could be nice too, maybe not for a whole album, but we are thinking about it" , confess the two artists in chorus before Marlon adds: "Music has no borders" .

Marlon and Sacha are each preparing to embark on their solo adventures. "I'm going to start releasing music at the end of the year and the album next year. For Sacha, it should follow about six months or a year later," explains Marlon, assuring that this does not signal the end of the group.

And for La Femme, a new step is on the horizon: a concert at the Accor Arena in Paris, in November 2025. "We've been dreaming of doing it since the beginning of the group, it's cool to do it fifteen years later. It's a beautiful chapter that puts us on the road to the Stade de France..."

Too many DJs at festivals?

Behind the glitz and dreams, the duo also openly admits: the job is tough, and the streaming era isn't helping matters. "It took us almost ten years to start making a little money from streaming," Marlon laments.

The duo defends a nuanced vision of music streaming platforms, particularly Spotify, recognizing its role in artistic discovery abroad thanks to algorithms, but points the finger at its low remuneration, and a system which "puts us in competition with numbers" .

Their criticism extends to festival programming, which increasingly favors DJs, "more profitable and with more streams," and headliners, to the detriment of the quality of emerging artists.

Their struggle paints a portrait of a new generation of artists: lucid enough to denounce the rules of the game, but passionate enough to continue playing it, always hoping, note by note, to shake things up.

This Thursday, concert starting at 7 p.m., Hotel Amour beach, Nice. Sold out. Waiting list with tickets priced at $45.58 on dice.fm

Friday, September 12 in Aix-en-Provence, at the Super Moustache festival.
