“Too bad”: Sally Rooney risks prison by donating part of her income to Palestine Action

Irish novelist Sally Rooney, famous for her bestseller "Normal People" and known for her left-wing activism, has announced that she plans to donate part of her royalties to Palestine Action, a Palestinian support group classified as a "terrorist organization" in the United Kingdom. This puts her at risk of arrest under current anti-terrorism legislation.
“I support Palestine Action. And if this decision makes me a supporter of terrorism, according to British law, then so be it.” Irish author Sally Rooney, best known for her bestseller Normal People (2018) and considered “the voice of millennials” for her intimate writings on relationships and the introspection of younger generations, has decided to donate part of her royalties to Palestine Action, a pro-Palestine activist group that has been considered a “ terrorist ” in the UK since July.
The sums involved include income from television adaptations of his novels, including BBC royalties for the series Normal People (2020) and for the series Conversations Between Friends (2022).
She chose the Irish newspaper The Irish Times to publish her column , arguing: “I would happily publish this article in a British newspaper, but that would be illegal.” She says:
“I fully intend to use the income from my work, as well as my notoriety, to continue to support Palestine Action and all the direct actions currently taking place to combat the genocide, using all the means at my disposal.”
