Boardwalk Empire actor Michael Pitt was arrested Friday for sexual assault and domestic violence, the New York Post and Variety revealed on Wednesday, May 7. According to the American tabloid and cultural weekly, the 44-year-old is accused of multiple assaults by his ex-girlfriend, during four incidents that occurred between 2020 and 2021. He allegedly sexually assaulted her, then attacked her a few months later with a block of cement and a piece of wood, in the home he occupied at the time, according to prosecutors and sources in Brooklyn, one of the five boroughs of New York in the United States. The actor appeared in Brooklyn Supreme Court following his arrest.
The actor pleaded not guilty. He was released from court on bail set at $100,000. His attorney, Jason Goldman, denounced the arrest on baseless charges. "We look forward to proving his innocence through evidence, not the media," said Michael Pitt's legal representative. "The reality is that this baseless accusation is being made four or five years after the alleged incident, at a time when both parties were in a completely consensual and voluntary relationship. This case will be dismissed," he said.
Michael Pitt was previously arrested in July 2022 for assault and robbery. He allegedly punched a man multiple times and then stole his phone, the New York Post reported. Later that year, he was reportedly hospitalized and deemed "emotionally disturbed" after throwing objects at people from the roof of a building. Pitt is scheduled to appear in court again on June 17 in this new sexual and domestic violence case.
