Several of the festival's shows showcase the sometimes heavy debt artists owe to the generations that came before them. How can we honor this debt, but also manage to free ourselves from it?

Each person is entitled to their own little altar, topped with their own photo. On the garden side, the portrait of Mohamed El Khatib's father is (sur)guarded by an imposing deer trophy. On the courtyard side, a small, currently mute, stuffed parrot sits ironically above the face of José Galvan, whose son, Israel, has followed—well, not quite—in his footsteps into the art of flamenco.
