O ne time again, the theater curtain rises on the capital of the Périgord Noir. For more than two weeks, from July 17 to August 2, the medieval city will welcome numerous actors who will take to the stage to promote their art. And, this comedy celebrates its 73rd anniversary this year.

18 theater shows to discover

For this new edition, the Jeux du Théâtre festival offers 18 open-air shows, a reading, meetings and discussions. True to its traditions, the festival welcomes established artists and new talents, actors, authors and directors who will offer you, among others, works by Marguerite Yourcenar, Guy de Maupassant, Shakespeare, Molière, Denis Diderot, Eugène Labiche. From July 17 to August 2, three legendary places in Sarlat, the Place de la Liberté, the Jardin des Enfeus and the Sainte-Claire Abbey, will host classic plays and contemporary works.

The opening performance, "Forget Me," is inspired by Matthew Seager's play "In Other Words." In this play, the two protagonists met in a nightclub. Arthur, a smooth talker with a big heart, flirted a bit heavily with Jeanne, whose resistance quickly melted before the young man's humor and tenacity. These two experience a passionate love story in an atmosphere of great complicity. But, little by little, cracks begin to appear in their daily lives. It begins in a very insidious way: why did Arthur take so long to buy milk and stamps just down the road? And everything will unfold according to an implacable mechanism, that of Alzheimer's disease, presented only in its early stages.

The next play of the festival will be a play based on Marguerite Yourcenar's novel, "Memoirs of Hadrian," which will be performed on Friday, July 18, at 9 p.m., at the Sainte-Claire Abbey.

"Forget Me," Thursday, July 17, at 9:45 p.m., at the Jardin des Enfeus, full price €25. Discover the festival program at festival-theatre-sarlat.com.
