Film studios, training, post-production… Madrid dreams of becoming the “Hollywood of Europe”

The Secuoya Studios group has created a huge complex in the suburbs of the Spanish capital, a new global El Dorado for the production of films and series, particularly for Netflix.
By Pauline ConradssonAmidst the flat, arid landscape, crushed by the stifling heat at the end of June, these large warehouses with the emblematic red N can be seen from afar. Welcome to Tres Cantos, 30 km north of Madrid. It is in this suburban town with its rapidly expanding modern buildings, where several multinationals have set up their headquarters, that the Secuoya group established its TV City in 2018, renamed Content City.
This "content city," akin to cinema and fiction, a colossal 140,000 m² complex, has a powerful driving force: Netflix. The streaming giant has already made the site its main production center in Europe, renting ten of the twelve immense hangars for its filming for the past three years. Large posters on the buildings remind us that the series "Elite" and "Cable Girls, " the film "The Snow Circle," and the iconic saga "Money Heist" were all filmed here.
