Gal Gadot blames Snow White's failure on anti-Israel 'pressure' in Hollywood

The actress who plays the Evil Queen in the animated remake believes the film was boycotted in part because of its Israeli origins. However, she qualifies this by pointing out that other factors may have contributed to this commercial failure.
" They saw me first and foremost as an Israeli and not as an actress ," says Gal Gadot . Was the release of the live-action adaptation of Snow White boycotted because of the actress's origins? The umpteenth Disney remake released in March has been the subject of much discussion, between the choice of a Latina actress to play the princess, the rumors of feuds between the two leads with strong opinions, one defending Palestine and the other Israel, the computer-generated dwarves and the overly free rewriting of the Brothers Grimm tale.
As a result, the feature film had the worst opening ever for a Disney remake at the North American box office, grossing just $43 million. Gal Gadot, aka the Evil Queen in Marc Webb's film, attributed this failure to the "pressure" in Hollywood to "speak out against Israel," she revealed, as a guest on the Israeli show The A Talks on Sunday, August 17, as reported by the Jerusalem Post. " You know, this happens a lot in various industries, including Hollywood. Celebrities are pressured to criticize Israel. And it has happened ," she said.
Skip the ad“ I always try to explain and contextualize what’s happening in Gaza. But in the end, everyone makes their own decisions. I was disappointed that the film was terribly affected by all of this and didn’t do well at the box office,” she explains . “When it came out, I felt that those who are against Israel were criticizing me in a very personal, almost visceral way. They saw me primarily as an Israeli, not as an actress.”
Gal Gadot, however, is keen to point out that her background isn't the only reason Snow White failed at the box office. " Of course, the movie didn't fail solely because of outside pressure. Many factors determine the success or failure of a movie, and success is never guaranteed," she said on social media, after her comments were heavily criticized online. The actress who plays the Evil Queen also dismissed any rumors of a feud with Rachel Zegler, aka Snow White during filming. " I loved filming with her. We laughed, talked, and it was fun. I knew this movie was going to be a huge success. "
Gal Gadot has never failed to publicly support her country, particularly since the October 7 massacre. This commitment has been criticized by many internet users and pro-Palestinian protesters, who have not hesitated to call for a boycott. In late May, five protesters were arrested after targeting the set of her upcoming film, The Runner, in central London. Two months earlier, the actress's Hollywood Walk of Fame induction ceremony was delayed by pro-Palestinian protesters.
