Comedy clubs are all the rage in Paris. You can discover artists in small venues for just a few euros. The comedians then have a few minutes to perfect their lines. A report from the legendary Point-Virgule venue.

The Point-Virgule is a legendary café-theater. Elie Kakou, Jean-Marie Bigard , and Florence Foresti all started here. For spectators, a promise: seeing future comedy stars, for around 20 euros a seat. Inside, a small room for a maximum of 100 people and seats very close to the stage. That evening, they are complete unknowns; it's the principle of open stages. Each artist then has ten minutes to prove themselves. Today, they are not paid but they have everything to gain. " Here, it's used to work on jokes (...), to promote your show, " lists Basile, a comedian.

For 25 years, Antoinette Colin has been unearthing the comedians of tomorrow. In recent years, she's made her initial selection based on the videos sent to her. For the venue to be profitable, it requires between three and seven shows a day.

Finding good jokes is hard, but it works. In recent years, there's been a growing number of stand-up comedy acts. That's what Az chose, who, between one-man shows and radio guest appearances, already has a well-established career. After his show, he heads to Le Paname, one of the oldest venues in the capital. He has 15 minutes to try out new sketches.
