A man was publicly executed Tuesday in southern Iran after being convicted of murdering four members of the same family, state media reported. "One of the perpetrators of the brutal murder of four members of a family in Beyram, Fars province, was hanged in public on Tuesday," Mizan, the judiciary's agency, said.
"During a robbery in October 2024, the defendant murdered, along with his wife, a mother and her three children," Mizan added. The couple was sentenced to death last February, and the verdict was upheld by the Supreme Court in April, according to Iranian media. Mizan reported that the wife would also be executed, in prison in her case, without specifying a date.
Murder and rape are punishable by death in Iran, the world's second-highest executioner after China , according to human rights organizations including Amnesty International. Public executions in Iran are usually carried out by hanging at dawn.
