Jura. Bellecin Beach: When vacationers mistake the urinal... for a trash can

Late Saturday, August 16, the urinal installed near Bellecin beach was overflowing, not with urine, but with garbage! The urinal, installed by the Bellecin authority, which manages the site, was there to satisfy the needs of vacationers and thus relieve congestion in the toilets installed in individual cabins nearby.
The urinal was not intended to be a receptacle for the rubbish generated by the large number of bathers present on this beach on this very hot day.
It's hard to know why so many people chose this four-place urinal to deposit their rubbish. It could be a case of the Panurge sheep phenomenon. This theory is confirmed by a bather who regularly frequents this beach and wishes to remain anonymous: "Around noon, there were only a few cans. By the end of the day, the urinal was full of rubbish," he noted. "Since there's no sign indicating that it's a urinal, perhaps some people don't know what it's for," he cautions.
But the good news is that by Sunday, August 17, around noon, the urinal had returned to its original function after being thoroughly cleaned by Bellecin's public works department. However, in the following days, the unfortunate tendency to mistake these latrines for a trash can was repeated.
It should be noted that this problem with the functioning of the toilets on Bellecin beach should be resolved by next summer, since a project to make the beach viable, with the installation of drinking and wastewater networks and an electrical connection, should be completed before the 2026 summer season. "This work will begin this fall," announced Philippe Prost, president of the Terre d'Émeraude community, during the community council meeting on April 2.
