Mont-Saint-Michel: the Court of Auditors wants to restore order

Magistrates are calling for administrative simplification for the management of the site and the abbey. According to them, there is too much duplication and tourists are suffering as a result.
The three million tourists who visit Mont-Saint-Michel each year are unaware of the war on the ground being waged there by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux (CMN) and the Établissement public industriel et commercial du Mont-Saint-Michel (Epic).
Since 2020, these two public entities have each had part of the management of the rock in their hands, the first being the owner of the walls and the abbey, the second having been created to ensure the missions of enhancement and economic development.
Two is probably too many, and there are countless daily tensions and absurdities that undermine the employees of both entities. This shows that the Court of Auditors' report, announced for May and finally published without further publicity on Thursday, July 17, was eagerly awaited.
