Saint-Paul-de-Varax. Oualid Boukrif, painter, exhibits at the Louis-Jourdan Museum

From May 31st to June 15th, the Louis-Jourdan Museum in Saint-Paul-de-Varax is hosting the work of Oualid Boukrif, painter, writer and poet, in an exhibition entitled “Mystical Trance and Tragic Bodies”.

It's, to say the least, a thought-provoking exhibition, one that can be disturbing, but one that requires time to understand. Oualid Boukrif describes his painting as militant: "I venture into somewhat sensitive areas, I don't ignore what is beautiful or not beautiful, whether it will interest the public or not, with my paintings on slavery, migrants, or the fall of Abbé Pierre."

Dissect your painting

Oualid Boukrif's vision can be disconcerting at first glance; one must dissect his painting, immerse oneself in it, and discover its meaning. His paintings are thought-provoking, and one must go beyond the mystical to understand the artist's journey.

About the museum

In 1962, the widow of the painter Louis Jourdan, born in 1872 in Bourg-en-Bresse, donated around fifty of her husband's paintings to the town. A museum now bears his name in Saint-Paul-de-Varax, in the Dombes region that the artist so cherished. The association Sur les pas de Louis Jourdan, chaired by Bruno Froget, now manages the museum, which is open from May to October, in the afternoons, on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
