'Art Nouveau Week' celebrates Liberty with exhibitions, conferences and thematic tours

This year the event, scheduled from 8 to 14 July, is on the theme of the butterfly, emblem of transformation

The Art Nouveau Week, the European event dedicated to the Liberty style and the arts of the early twentieth century scheduled from 8 to 14 July, will be in the name of the butterfly, emblem of transformation. Now in its seventh edition, it is promoted by Italia Liberty and curated by Andrea Speziali with a scientific and honorary committee, under the high patronage of the European Parliament. The program includes online conferences on architecture, decorative arts, fashion, illustration, cuisine and literature, with 14 meetings curated by the expert in the field and teacher Andrea Speziali, two per day for the whole week.

Among the special events, the thematic tours: “Eterno Liberty” (Italy by jet and Frecciarossa with historical reenactments); “Puglia Modernista” (July 9-11 between Bari and Lecce); “Valencia Modernista” (July 11-14); “Freccia Liberty” (by train between ten Italian Liberty stations). Sicily is the protagonist with visits to Catania, Palermo and Mondello, the conference cycle “Modernism in Sicily” (July 9-11), the exhibition “La Belle Époque in Palermo between art, fashion and history” at Villa Pottino and exclusive openings at Villa Ardizzone and the Casa Museo Liberty in Chiaramonte Gulfi.

Over 120 daily guided tours in 70 Italian cities, designed by Andrea Speziali together with licensed tour guides, with extraordinary access to villas and palaces normally closed to the public. Great space also for Liberty funerary art with itineraries in the main Italian monumental cemeteries: from Milan to Genoa, from Rome to Florence, with masterpieces by Bistolfi, Wildt, Orengo and Manzù. A week to explore an elegant, fairy-tale and surprisingly contemporary world. The new official catalogue of the Art Nouveau Week 2025 includes unpublished discoveries, recent restorations and an updated world census of over 15,000 Art Nouveau buildings, the result of years of work conducted by curator Andrea Speziali and the international network of scholars and enthusiasts.
