Farewell to Ermanno Corsi, authoritative voice of the Capri-S.Michele Award and guardian of the cultural soul of the island

The Capri-S.Michele Award expresses deep sorrow for the passing of Ermanno Corsi, which occurred in Naples on June 21. And expresses gratitude and recognition, both for having been a member of the Jury since the Second Edition in 1985, and for his fundamental support for the launch and development of the Award, which he considered an opportunity and venue for a wide-ranging cultural debate.
Since 1987 he has also taken on the task of writing the reports for the Capri-S. Michele Awards of various humanity, awarded to personalities who have achieved a high level of affirmation and prestige in their professional activities and have a special relationship with the Island of Capri, for the ceremonies announcing the winners and awarding the prizes.
In 2003 he collected all the reports he had already written, always in his little house in Anacapri, located in Via Timpone, in the small volume “ Aspettando Capri ”, published by Guida, and with a preface by Francesco Paolo Casavola who, as president of the Jury, had taken over from Archbishop Antonio Zama.
He arranged the reports in four chapters, whose titles reveal the main themes of his consideration of Capri today: a place of the great book of nature; a place of reflection; a place where actions of resistance to territorial degradation are sought; a place where one looks responsibly towards the future.
In concluding the brief introduction to the booklet he wrote: "There are privileged places where it is said that destiny does not touch the ground, but remains suspended between the sky and the sea. For Capri there is no definition that is worth indicating or summarizing all that the Island is capable of expressing and representing. Everyone chases the object of desire in the mutual expectation of welding knowledge and relationship in a way that is the least occasional and the most durable possible".
