Hypermaremma: Francesco Arena's twelve swings arrive in Capalbio Scalo

Hypermaremma: Francesco Arena's twelve swings arrive in Capalbio Scalo

The artist brings to Maremma a site-specific installation with twelve swings, between engraved sentences and freedom of movement

A sculpture that was both an invitation to play and a tool for reflection. In Capalbio Scalo (Terre di Sacra), "La dodicesima altalena" was inaugurated, the new site-specific intervention by Francesco Arena for Hypermaremma.

The work consists of a circular structure with twelve swings that stand out against the horizon of the hill. Eleven seats, cast in bronze at the historic Fonderia Artistica Battaglia in Milan, bear engraved phrases, sentences and statements taken from the artist's writings and from historical figures. The twelfth swing, deliberately devoid of definitive statements, has relativized the contents, inviting visitors to live the experience as a moment of freedom, between the physicality of movement and the autonomy of thought.

The initiative was part of the Hypermaremma project, the festival born in 2019 to promote contemporary art in the Maremma area. Through permanent works that can be visited at any time, Hypermaremma transforms landscapes and places into a widespread museum, enhancing the relationship between artistic creation and the local community.

"The twelfth swing" was created with the support of the Tuscany Region as part of ToscanaInContemporanea – GiovaniSì 2025.
