A Chinese woman has been charged and sent to prison for stealing six kilos of gold from the National Museum of Natural History in Paris in early October.

A Chinese woman was formally charged and remanded in custody Tuesday for her alleged involvement in a gold robbery at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris , the Paris prosecutor's office reported Monday. The 34-year-old woman allegedly stole about six kilos of gold worth more than half a million euros.

According to a statement from the prosecutor's office, the suspect was brought before French courts on October 13 , after being handed over by Spanish authorities, who arrested her in Barcelona on September 30 pursuant to a European arrest warrant issued by France.

The investigation points to a planned and executed theft by an organized gang , which allegedly targeted the museum's scientific collection of high-value gold nuggets used for research and conservation purposes. Investigators have not yet revealed the total value of the stolen material, although it is considered a significant loss to the national scientific heritage.
