Book Fair 2025: Today's Recommended Books, May 7

The last six days of the 2025 Book Fair still have much to offer. At the Clarín/Ñ cultural space at 4 p.m., the theme will be crime fiction, and the speakers will be two unmissable actors: Horacio Convertini ( The Accuracy of Pain ) and Kike Ferrari ( If You Are Reading This ). At 5 p.m., writer and cultural manager Nicolás Hochman talks about the strange parallel reality experienced by sleepwalkers in an interview with Patricia Somoza. At 6 p.m., María José Herrera talks with March Mazzei about Ary Brizzi: The Harmony of Modernity . Finally, at 7 p.m., Mario Massaccesi will present his latest book , Being Happy in Times of Crisis .

To program a robot

To begin, at 2:00 PM, participants can choose between a programming and robotics workshop: "Do you want to know how to program a robot? In this workshop, we will provide an introduction to robot programming and work with Arduino boards, using different types of sensors and actuators," organized by the Department of Computer Science, Exactas-UBA in the Digital Space; and a demonstration station with experiments : "Geofluid experiments show you, in a practical way, how liquids and gases move on Earth. This experience helps us better understand the processes that shape our planet and its climate," organized by the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, Exactas-UBA in the Explora Zone.

At 2:30 p.m., an activity invites girls ages 9 to 12 to learn about " The Other Frida . A Journey Through Frida Kahlo's Diary." We'll explore the pages of Frida Kahlo's Diary and reflect on the use of the diary as a tool to enhance the creative process. The activity will be held in the Children's Area.

Jules Verne 120 years later

At 4:00 PM, Antonio Las Heras, Carlos Penelas, and Jorge Roberto Martínez will review " Jules Verne: His Legacy 120 Years After His Death" in the Alfonsina Storni Room; while at 5:30 PM, " Autobiography and Autofiction " will be discussed. Four contemporary Argentine writers will address their experiences in narrative that plays with the representation of one's own life and family life/memory, either proposing a more explicit autobiographical contract or slipping into imaginary transfiguration. Both modalities flourish in a social and cultural context where "narratives of the self" move to the foreground. With Graciela Batticuore, María Rosa Lojo, Silvia Plager, and Natalia Zito , in the Alejandra Pizarnik Room.

At 5:30 p.m., Claudia Piñeiro and Enrique Piñeyro , scriptwriters of the series El Reino, will analyze that work in the talk “From Book to Film. Transpositions” in the Horacio González room. Half an hour later, there will be a tribute to Susana Thénon with a panel featuring speakers specializing in the work of one of the greatest Argentine poets of the 20th century. There will be readings of her poems and a review of her life and work 90 years after her birth in Zona Futuro.

LGBTQ+ Creative Writing

To close, at 7:00 p.m., the Canadian Embassy will present a project already underway in Toronto on LGBTQ+ Latin American creative reading and writing for the migrant and refugee population. Argentine poet Juan F. García will speak about his experience as a project leader in the Pride and Prejudice room; while Emmanuelle Bayamack-Tam will discuss her novels Arcadia and The Thirteenth Hour with Mónica Zwaig and Lil Sclavo in the Carlos Gorostiza room; and lawyer and Kirchnerist activist Juan Grabois will present his book Argentina humana in the José Hernández room.
