Cecilia Monzón's feminicide: López Zavala's request to be tried in Toluca is rejected

PUEBLA, Pue., (apro).- In a hearing held this Monday, the request of Javier López Zavala's defense to be tried in Toluca for the femicide of attorney Cecilia Monzón was rejected.
Following this ruling, Helena Monzón described this request by the defense as absurd after the murder of her sister in Puebla and considered that this is one of the "shameless" things that the defense wants to use to delay the trial of the Marinista politician, which is already scheduled to begin on March 12.
"Because there are no fines for recklessness, there is nothing like that, there is also no loss of membership for lawyers who abuse the procedure, so we are responding to absurd things such as people telling us that, although Javier López is sitting in court, in reality it is as if he is spiritually in Almoloya and should be judged in the State of Mexico," said Monzón.
He explained that the issue is so clear that if Cecilia's murder was committed in Puebla, it has to be judged in this entity and under its laws.
Because of this type of strategy, he said, the trial against the former PRI candidate for governor of Puebla has been prolonged and has been going on for almost three years.
"The things that are happening here are due to the sole purpose of the defense, which is to prevent Javier López from facing the trial he deserves," he stressed.
