Cirque du Soleil celebrates 20 years in Guadalajara with the colorful show 'OVO'

The magic of Cirque du Soleil, a Canadian company and a global icon of stage entertainment, will celebrate two decades of performances in Guadalajara with the show OVO, from November 5 to 9 at the VFG Arena. This production, which combines high-level acrobatics, live music, and a universe filled with fantastic creatures, will mark a new chapter in the history of the Guadalajara audience and the world's most renowned contemporary circus.
"There's been a very close relationship between Guadalajara and Cirque du Soleil since it first arrived in 2005. The people of Guadalajara embraced the concept, which is so innovative, and we haven't stopped coming since," said Iñaki Barcos, family events promoter at OCESA.

Through their coexistence and differences, these characters explore themes such as inclusion, love, and humanity's relationship with nature. All of this unfolds alongside a seven-piece band performing a live score inspired by Brazilian rhythms.
Although this show has already toured more than 40 countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, OVO returns to North America with a revamped production featuring previously unseen acrobatic acts, new characters, reimagined costumes, and fresh musical arrangements. The tour includes stops in Monterrey, Mexico City, and, of course, Guadalajara, where the company expects to surpass one million cumulative viewers since its first visit.
"'OVO' is the first time it has come to Guadalajara. Many people think that when Cirque du Soleil returns to the VFG Arena or the big top they say 'we've already seen it,' but no: it's the first time OVO has come and we haven't repeated a song during these 20 years," explained Carlos de la Torre, director of OCESA Jalisco.
The show, one of the longest-running in Cirque du Soleil's international repertoire, was created 16 years ago and features 53 artists on stage. With flights, jumps, and precise choreography, OVO offers a multisensory experience designed for the whole family.
Beyond the artistic aspect, Cirque's visit also represents a significant boost to the local economy. According to De la Torre "These 20 years mean, in terms of economic impact, that Guadalajara has received nearly 5 billion pesos." For this particular edition, attendance is estimated at 35,000 people, including more than 9,000 foreign visitors. This will generate an economic impact of approximately 100 million pesos.

From its street roots in Quebec to a global entertainment brand, its evolution has been constant.
