Diane Keaton's cause of death revealed

Diane Keaton's cause of death revealed

The death of Diane Keaton , the Oscar-winning star of "Annie Hall" and featured in films such as "The Godfather" and "Father of the Bride," shocked colleagues and fans, and days after her passing, her family revealed the cause of her death.

Keaton, who died on October 11 at the age of 79, died of pneumonia , his family revealed to People magazine, where they expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of affection.

"The Keaton family is deeply grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received in recent days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11," they wrote in a statement.

The statement also explains what can be done in honor of the actress, who loved animals.

"She loved her animals and was steadfast in her support of the homeless community, so any donation in her memory to a local food bank or animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her," Keaton's family also shared about her passions.

Keaton won her first Oscar for "Annie Hall" and would go on to be nominated three more times , for "Reds," playing journalist and suffragette Louise Bryant, "Marvin's Room," as a caregiver who suddenly needs caretaking herself, and "Something's Gotta Give," as a middle-aged divorcée who is the object of attraction to several men.

Keaton was born Diane Hall in January 1946 in Los Angeles, though her family was not part of the film industry she would later find herself in. Her mother was a homemaker and photographer, and her father worked in real estate and civil engineering, both of whom would inspire her love of the arts, from fashion to architecture .
