The 2025 Met Gala kicks off with a moving tribute to the African-American community

An African-American choir kicked off the Met Gala parade on Monday. , under the watchful eye of renowned editor Anna Wintour, actor Colman Domingo and Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton.
The choir's twenty singers performed Marvin Gaye's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" on the blue and floral carpet at the event, which celebrates an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum on the style of so-called "black dandies."

Domingo, one of the hosts of the event, also highlighted the importance of celebrating Black excellence in the current climate in the United States, and declared: "We will tell them who we are."
The actor, who arrived in an electric blue cape with rhinestones and later changed into a black and white sequined suit, was paying homage to editor André Leon Talley, one of the great contemporary "black dandies," according to specialized fashion media.
Although the political situation was in the air—with the Donald Trump administration canceling affirmative action policies favoring Black and Latino people— there were no direct mentions of the US president himself or his administration.
