The mayor of Cuitzeo suffers a new attack: she is injured along with two of her bodyguards.

MORELIA, Mich. (apro).- The mayor of Cuitzeo, Rosa Elia Milán Pintor, was the victim of a new armed attack early Sunday morning, in which she was injured along with two of her bodyguards, one of whom is in serious condition.
The attack occurred around midnight inside the La Cabaña del Lago restaurant, located in the El Embarcadero neighborhood.
According to preliminary reports, a group of armed men burst into the establishment and opened fire directly at the mayor and her security detail. Milán Pintor suffered a bullet graze in her arm and was taken to a hospital in Morelia, where she remains under medical supervision in a stable condition. The State Attorney General's Office has already opened an investigation.
This incident adds to a series of previous attacks the councilor has faced during her political career. In May 2021, during her election campaign, she was ambushed along with her husband, José Marcelino Pérez Aguilar, who lost his life in the attack.
In December 2024, a taxi was set on fire in front of City Hall with a message signed by alleged members of organized crime, who demanded the cancellation of the Christmas festivities, under the threat of murder.
The municipality has also been the scene of other violent incidents: in 2022, the then municipal trustee, Francisco Díaz Rodríguez, was deprived of his liberty and subsequently murdered, and months later, Israel Delgado Vega, who was emerging as his successor, was gunned down.
Violence against municipal authorities is not unique to Cuitzeo. So far in 2025, similar attacks have been reported in municipalities such as Tepalcatepec and Tacámbaro, leaving two mayors killed and another injured. The cases of Salvador Bastida García, Martha Laura Mendoza Mendoza, and Rosa Elia Milán are currently under investigation.
In this regard, the Archbishop of Morelia, Monsignor Carlos Garfías Merlos, lamented the attack and noted that these events reflect a reality of violence that "is already evident." During a Sunday press conference, he called for public recognition of the seriousness of the situation in Michoacán and urged strengthening efforts toward social reconciliation.
At the same event, local authorities presented the "Peace in Your Neighborhood" program, which will begin on July 17 in the Independencia neighborhood. Through cultural activities and community workshops, the program seeks to rebuild the social fabric and create conditions for peaceful coexistence. The upcoming workshops for journalists focused on peace and constructive social narratives were also announced.
