Netflix has begun filming a series adaptation of "The Doll"

Filming for the new costume drama series "The Doll", inspired by the novel by Bolesław Prus, began on July 1. Sandra Drzymalska plays Izabela Łęcka in this Netflix production, and Tomasz Schuchardt plays Stanisław Wokulski. The six-episode series is directed by Paweł Maślona. The premiere is planned for 2026.
As Paweł Maślona announces, the series "Lalka" is primarily a contemporary melodrama in which we tell a story about love, obsession and social division, but we do not limit ourselves to one convention. There will also be elements of tragicomedy and crime, because we want a genre adventure full of emotional shades. Maślona is the creator of such films as "Atak Paniki" or "Kos", which won the main prize at the festival in Gdynia.
At the center of the story is Izabela Łęcka, who does not agree to be a passive aristocrat. She is fascinated by emancipated women, freedom is important to her. That is why she does not want to get married.
- In the series interpretation, Izabela Łęcka is a deep and multidimensional character - says Sandra Drzymalska in a press release. - We want to show her as an independent person who, although she comes from an aristocratic environment, tries to go beyond the patterns imposed on her - says Sandra Drzymalska.
- She is a heroine struggling with loneliness, searching for her own identity and closeness to others. She is distinguished by courage, determination and a strong need to find her place in the world.
As for Stanisław Wokulski, Tomasz Schuchardt sees him as a romantic, but also a man trapped in patriarchal patterns.
- While working on the script, we focused on his complexity and internal dilemmas, but avoided exaggeration or showing him as someone obsessed and completely insensitive to others. Our goal was to present Wokulski as a human being of flesh and blood - with flaws, but also with motivations that can be understood and justified - says Schuchardt.

Scenes for the series "The Doll" will be filmed in Warsaw, Łódź, Wrocław and Lublin, among others. In Warsaw, outdoor scenes will be filmed in Krakowskie Przedmieście and the Old Town, among others. Locations will also include the horse racing tracks in Warsaw's Służewiec and Wrocław's Partynice, as well as the Radziwiłł Palace in Nieborów, the Wrocław Opera, the castle in Łańcut and the palace in Jabłonna.
"The Doll" returns to the screensCurrently, not one, but two film adaptations of "The Doll" are being created, as a production based on Prus' novel is also being prepared by Gigant Films and Telewizja Polska. In this adaptation, Wokulski will be played by Marcin Dorociński, Łęcka by Kamila Urzędowska, and Ignacy Rzecki by Marek Kondrat.
