Bigelow's film about nuclear attack on the US premieres in Venice

"House of Dynamite" arrives in competition at the Venice Film Festival as one of the most anticipated films of the festival. Kathryn Bigelow's film, which chronicles a nuclear attack on the United States, discusses the consequences of the issue, which has heated up global geopolitics.

"It's a global issue: We're really living in a house full of dynamite that could explode at any moment," explained Bigelow, the first woman to win the Oscar for Best Director in 2010 for "The Hurt Locker," which also won Best Picture.

"The most important thing today is to communicate, to be as informed as possible, so that we can understand what the consequences [of a nuclear attack] might be. I think diplomacy is the number one solution to get us out of this kind of situation, and the important aspect of this film was to humanize the whole process, focusing on individual characters," explained the filmmaker.

Asked by the press if she was already considering a sequel with the American head of state, Donald Trump, in place of the president in the film, "which doesn't reference any president," the director responded: "I certainly don't have a crystal ball. It's not about men, it's about addressing a problem."

"House of Dynamite" is written by Noah Oppenheim and features names such as Rebecca Ferguson, Jared Harris and Idris Elba.
