Camões' travels inspire performances of poetry, music and gastronomy

The 'Performances with Flavor' project proposes a journey through the places where Luis Vaz de Camões passed through - Ceuta, India, the island of Mozambique, Macau and Portugal -, with each show accompanied by a dinner snack representative of the gastronomy of each place, explains the cultural association Espaço das Aguncheiras, which organizes the event, in a statement.
The performances themselves recount the experiences that the poet had or is imagined to have had on each of these trips, and take place at Espaço das Aguncheiras, in Sesimbra.
"These meetings involve sharing auditory and gastronomic delights, perspectives on Camões' poetry, his globetrotting genius, and the search for understanding of his struggles, his contemporaries, and the discoveries and developments that were precipitated by the possibility of discovery," the organizers describe.
The first performance, which takes place today, is dedicated to Ceuta (Morocco), and evokes the military experience of Luis de Camões in the Moroccan square, where he lost an eye.
The show features direction and dramaturgy by São José Lapa and Inês Lapa Lopes, text by João Paiva, interpretation by Guilherme Macedo and music by Rui Rebelo.
The following performances will take place throughout the autumn, with the second performance, dedicated to India, scheduled for October 25th.
Produced by Joana Botelho, the cycle also includes scenography by Inês Lapa Lopes, sound research by Alberto Lopes and São José Lapa, and gastronomy by 'chef' Naima.
