The Del Puerto Company, a reference in the dissemination of flamenco dance in Brazil, is launching a project to digitally preserve its 25-year-old collection. With funding from the National Arts Foundation (Funarte) and the Federal Government, the initiative seeks to ensure the preservation and free access to historical records of the group's performances, research and artistic memories. The project involves the digitization and organization of more than 3,000 photographs, 60 performance records and several recordings of rehearsals and classes. The material, currently stored on VHS tapes, CDs and flash drives, will undergo a recovery process and be made available online, expanding access for researchers, artists and dance schools. The digitized archives include projects such as the award-winning show Las Cuatro Esquinas (2015). The project will be launched on May 17, 2025, at 7 pm, at the current headquarters of the Del Puerto Company (Av. Érico Veríssimo, 716). The event will be free and will feature screenings of short excerpts from the collection and a live performance by the company. There will be communication accessibility, including audio description and translation into Libras, in addition to an accessible architectural structure. “We want this collection to be a point of reference for art and artists, especially in these times of devaluation and neglect of the cultural sector, a sector that generates beauty and also dividends for the country,” says Daniele Zill, Director of DP and coordinator of the project. In addition to documenting Del Puerto’s trajectory, the project has an educational purpose and aims to serve as a tool for schools and researchers. The collection will contribute to the preservation of flamenco in Brazil and its intersection with other artistic languages, such as native dances, funk, and capoeira, in addition to the formation of academic knowledge and research in dance. The digitized content will be made available on platforms accessible to the public, including the company’s YouTube channel, which was redesigned to receive the audiovisual material, and the MUD Portal, a digital platform focused on the appreciation of dance in Brazil.
