Experience as a teacher inspires Paula Frade for her first book

It was based on her experience as a teacher and tutor that Paula Frade decided to write her first book. Her outpourings and confidences, explains the 43-year-old author from Vagos, were used as raw material for a work that addresses "no taboos" on topics related to mental health. "I've seen serious cases of young people contemplating suicide or self-harm, or young people experiencing problems like bulimia or anorexia," she tells Diário de Aveiro. These experiences were conveyed in the pages of "DescomplicadaMente" and are addressed through the eyes of the protagonist, a young orphaned teenager, Maze, who experiences some of the typical dramas of youth.
"The young people who attend my classes and tutoring sessions are the same age as Maze," says Paula Frade. This close contact with her young students, conducive to sharing life stories, was the inspiration for writing her debut book, which had its first launch on October 4th at the João Grave Municipal Library in Vagos, followed by a new presentation in Aveiro on the 26th.
The author has, in her words, "the gift of listening to others without judgment," allowing her students to feel comfortable sharing their problems and concerns. "As educators and parents, we need to be more attentive to these situations," she urges.
