Italian-Brazilian cuisine is highlighted in the Michelin Guide 2025

Italian-Brazilian cuisine is highlighted in the Michelin Guide 2025

Italian cuisine and cuisine influenced by the Belpaese continues to shine in Brazil, having been highlighted in the MICHELIN Guide Rio de Janeiro & São Paulo 2025. In the capital of São Paulo, the Italian-Brazilian restaurant Evvai renewed its two stars, "reaffirming its place at the top" of national gastronomy. In addition, four new establishments were nominated in the "recommended" category.

While Evvai, by chef Luiz Filipe Souza, impresses with its Oriundi menu, symbolizing the exchange between Brazil and Italy, Babbo Osteria, in Rio de Janeiro, was mentioned for the first time in the famous guide as "recommended" for its "Italian-Carioca" cuisine. According to chef Elia Schramm, the place pays homage to his father, since "babbo" is "father" in Italian dialect, bringing to the dishes "childhood memories and family influences", such as handmade pasta dishes, such as Uova Pepenara, tagliolini served with small cubes of bacon and a creamy egg mollet - the chef's version of the classic carbonara.

The other three Michelin-recommended restaurants are located in São Paulo. The guide's committee said it was "surprised" by Giulietta Carni's "peculiar Italian-steakhouse fusion proposal." "The beef ribs glazed with Gran Masala sauce, accompanied by potato mille-feuille and roasted onions, melt in your mouth," says the Guide's note.

Marena Cucina, despite offering pasta and specialties from all over Italy, has the main objective of paying homage to the "specific flavors of Puglia", in the south of the country.

According to the "recommendation", "here [you] will find simple and tasty cuisine, with dishes such as Burrata artigianale Ficchi & Aceto IGP, Polpo alla Griglia, its generous Tagliolini Marena of fresh pasta, shrimp, octopus, squid and pomodorini".

While chef Luiz Souza's Evvai has two Michelin stars, his Trattoria Evvai, which offers traditional Italian cuisine with a contemporary twist, is among the new recommendations. "A must-try dish to start with is the Raviole, stuffed with crab, ricotta and an egg yolk that melts when cut, all covered in a sauce of butter, sage and freshly grated pecorino cheese," says the Michelin 2025 rating.

The current edition of the guide has recommended 149 restaurants, including 18 new ones. At the same time, five establishments renewed their two Michelin stars and four new establishments won one star.
