Monkfish fishing banned from Tuesday

Portugal has used 95% of its monkfish fishing quota, with this catch being prohibited from midnight next Tuesday, the Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services (DGRM) warned this Thursday.

“Considering the data on catches made by the Portuguese fleet of the monkfish ('lophiidae') stock in zones eight c, nine, 10 and EU waters of CECAF zone 34.1.1., it is reported that the quota utilization reached 95%”, reads a note from the DGRM.

Zone eight c corresponds to the Southern Bay of Biscay, zone nine to Portuguese waters and zone 10 to the Azores Bank.

Therefore, from 00:00 on October 21, anglerfish fishing is prohibited.

Discharges are limited to by-catch up to 5% of the total discharged per vessel, in each fishing tide.

The DGRM is a central service of the State's direct administration, with administrative autonomy, whose objective is to develop maritime security and services, implement fishing policies and preserve resources.
