Teatro do Bolhão produces a show with immigrants in a disused factory

Entitled “Palcos do Mundo – Fábrica”, this unique community production was commissioned by ADRIMAG - Integrated Rural Development Association of the Serras de Montemuro, Arada and Gralheira and, in addition to the local authority, also involves the municipalities of Arouca and Castelo de Paiva.
João Carlos Pinto, executive coordinator of ADRIMAG, says this second production at the decommissioned Martins & Rebello factory was inspired by Pope Francis's phrase, "We are all immigrants. No one has a fixed abode in this land," and uses the performing arts to integrate the migrant community, convinced that "art has the power to unite communities, bring neighbors together, and open doors."
"It's a moment made with and for the community, which honors collective memory and, at the same time, welcomes those who come from outside and choose our territories to live," argues director and actor Miguel Hernandez, who is the artistic director of the show, which began preparation in April.
In addition to the dramaturgy, it also involves its own sets, props, and costumes, to enhance a plot that aims to "value and respect immigrants, as well as denounce the problems and atrocities they face today."
Reflection on emigration"The show is inspired by the profound challenges associated with immigration and the thousands of refugees that mark the world today," Miguel Hernandez told Lusa. "By engaging with different cultures, we seek to awaken awareness, understanding, and rapport among peoples, so that together we can forge a path of hope toward a more sensitive and responsible humanity," he acknowledged, admitting the challenge of managing a team comprising 81 professional actors, 253 amateurs, and 37 technicians.
On the two-day run of the show "Palcos do Mundo – Fábrica," doors open at 6:30 p.m., inviting the public to "a true celebration, where they will be able to savor cuisine from around the world" and enjoy an exhibition on immigration, including projections with testimonies from immigrants. At 10 p.m., the tour of the old factory will begin, featuring various artistic interventions by the community along the way, followed by circus, choral music, and dance performances in the main square.
It should be noted that the building is in the process of being acquired by the Vale de Cambra municipality to house the future National Dairy Museum.
