Tribute to the “Children of the Medieval Journey”

In a particularly symbolic edition, which evokes the creation of the County of Feira by D. Afonso V, this year's Medieval Journey in Terra de Santa Maria opens on the evening of the 29th, the eve of the official start of the event, with a multidisciplinary contemporary show, which combines dance, video, music and fire.
According to the Santa Maria da Feira City Council, it will be "a moment of tribute" to the "Children of the Journey": "all the builders and makers of the historical recreation and all the people of Feira who were born and grew up with this event, and who represent the future and its continuity."
Residents of Feira born after 1996, the year of the first edition, can register using the online form, which will be available soon on the event's and the municipality's digital platforms. Participants up to 14 years of age must be accompanied by a parent. The performance "is a moment of celebration, but also of reflection on what it means today to elevate an idea with such deep roots in our history, and make it alive, current, and collective."
Starting from the "simple and powerful concept of the symbolic construction of a dream city," a modern-day architect will find, among ancient features and dormant memories, the outline of an ideal world—"an evocation of the medieval spirit, not as a historical recreation, but as a representation of values that transcend time: courage, beauty, cooperation, identity, and belonging." It begins at 10 p.m. at Terreiro das Guimbras, the venue for the event's large-scale performances, where contemporary dancers and musicians will lead the first stage of the construction of "a dream full of challenges, uncertainties, and questions, but with a happy ending," with a hundred artists.
Afterwards, representatives from all the associations and cultural agents participating in the Journey will take the stage, as well as the "Filhos da Viagem" (Children of the Journey), who will transport scenic elements alluding to the region. The show will conclude with the traditional opening ceremony on the Nau, next to Casa do Moinho, where the event's official flag will be hoisted.
