Various activities at the Library and Alameda Garden mark the «Literary Spring» in Faro

The António Ramos Rosa Municipal Library and the Alameda João de Deus Garden, in Faro, will host the «Literary Spring» between the 14th and 18th of May.

The 7th Literary Festival and the 47th Faro Book Fair will promote several book presentations, talks, poetry recitals and musical performances, with the presence of several renowned authors and artists, organized by Ginásio Clube de Faro and with the support of Papelaria e Livraria Sagres.

The official opening of the «Literary Spring» will take place on May 14th, at 4:30 pm, in the Library's lobby, with a visit to the Painting Exhibition «Portuguese Authors», followed by a visit to the Book Fair and the launch of the book «Vida na Praia» – published by ALFA, at Casa do Autor.

The day ends with the recital “Woman, I Can and I Command” by Maria Vilalobos and guest musicians, at Jardim da Alameda – Palco Casa do Sabino, starting at 6:30 pm.

On Thursday, May 15th, at 5 pm, the presentation of the book «As Trapezistas» by Ana Zanatti is scheduled, as well as a conversation with the author, moderated by Ana Isabel Soares, at Casa do Autor.

At 6 pm, on the Casa do Sabino Stage, Teolinda Gersão will be in conversation with Adriana Freire Nogueira, for the presentation of her book «The Unwritten Autobiography of Martha Freud».

The Library auditorium will then host, at 7:00 pm, the poetry recital “The doors that Ary opened”, with Ana Zanatti, Miguel Martins, José Anjos and Rui David. At 9:30 pm, in the same venue, there will be space for “Môce dum Cabréste”, with Dário Guerreiro, a show for over 16s.

On Friday, May 16, at 5:30 pm, Vera Marciano will present the book «Porta Azul – Era uma vez uma casa», at Casa do Autor. At 6:30 pm, in the Library Auditorium, Fernando Alvim will talk to Pedro Duarte about «the 10 books I will never read before I die», and at 7:00 pm, at Casa do Autor, Adriano Batista will present the book «Antes Que Chovam Laranjas» by Ivo Machado.

The day ends on the Casa do Sabino Stage, with a performance by Carlos Bica Quarteto 11:11, at 8:00 pm, as part of Jazz Days.

On Saturday, May 17th, the wide range of activities aimed at families will start at 11:00 am, with highlights including the various storytelling hours that will take place throughout the day, “O Elefante Gilberto” with Sónia Godinho, “Sim, Sr. Presidente” by Paula Fernandes, “O Senhor do Turbante e a Sra. Extravagante” by Fazedoras de Histórias and the activity “Reciclar?”, by the BMF educational service.

For the general public, the book presentation sessions begin at 10:30 am, at Casa do Autor with «1924 Silves – The Voices of Resistance» by António Guerreiro, followed at 11:30 am by «Sharing on parenting» with Marisol Anselmo and Patrícia Sancho.

At 2:30 pm there will be a presentation of the Illustrated Story “Once Upon a Time there was a Pinecone Festival” by Luís Barriga and at 3:30 pm there will be “Grandma Maria’s Spoon Talks” by Maria de Jesus Bispo.

At 4 pm, the Casa do Sabino Stage will host a conversation with Maria Francisca Gama and Filipa Fonseca Silva, moderated by Adriana Nogueira and at 5 pm, at Casa do Autor, Francisco Moita Flores will present «Now and in the Hour of Our Luck».

The Feel Good Band, at 6:00 pm, on the Casa do Sabino Stage, will liven up the late afternoon and the day will end with the PodCast «Assim ou Assado», with rapper Sam The Kid and professor Marco Neves, at 7:00 pm, in the Library Auditorium.

The “Primavera Literária” festival closes on Sunday, May 18th, with an extended program and lots of entertainment. At 10:00 am, Terminal Studios organizes a workshop and creative walk and there are several activities organized for families, among which the highlights, in the morning, are the staged reading with live illustration by Pedro Seromenho and “O homem da gaita” by João Violão.

In the afternoon, there will be a “Book Picnic” by Paula Cusati, Story Time and several fun and interactive activities with Susana Jorge.

For the general public, at 11:00 am, there will be a presentation of the publishing house Art°. 37 by Joaquim Coelho and at 2:30 pm, Cláudia Sofia Sousa will present her latest book «Death is nothing»; followed by the presentation of the books «Spurious Collection» with Vítor Gil Cardeira, Pedro Jubilot, Luís N and Dário Agostinho at 3:30 pm.

At 5:00 pm, “João de Deus invites…” will be the Literary Walk, with Theatre and Poetry with Pedro Monteiro and the Espúria Collective. Pedro Chagas Freitas will talk to the public and present his book “Hospital de Alfaces”, at 6:00 pm.

«Celebrating Life» will be the concert by Beto Kalulú and guest musicians, which will close this edition of the «Literary Spring» Festival.

The school public will also have several activities aimed at pre-school and 1st cycle students, being invited to visit the exhibition “Spiritual Scarecrows”, with works carried out by several kindergartens in the municipality, and families will find several options for reading entertainment in the late afternoon on weekdays.

Throughout these days, some activities will take place permanently, such as the 47th Faro Book Fair, between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm, in Jardim da Alameda, the «BooK Tinder», organized by the Sê Mais Sê Melhor Association, and the «Visual Arts Exhibition of the Tomás Cabreira School Group» at the IPDJ.

All activities are free of charge and admission is free, but shows in the Library auditorium are subject to maximum capacity and the doors to the space open approximately 15 minutes before the start of the sessions.
