Fraudsters have begun actively implementing fraudulent schemes using mobile apps for contactless payments to steal money from Russians.

According to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs press center, these apps allow criminals to obtain bank card data when a smartphone is touched by a reader. The agency explained that the fraudulent schemes used by criminals continue to become more sophisticated. Specifically, they have begun using apps like NFC Gate.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, scammers, under the pretext of reinstalling the banking app, ask victims to download similar programs. The press center clarified that such an app activates an NFC sensor, allowing card data to be transmitted to the scammer when the smartphone is held near the reader.

In conclusion, it is noted that the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has previously repeatedly warned citizens against downloading unknown applications, especially from suspicious websites.
