Starting March 1, 2027, Russia will begin implementing a system for automatically revoking driver's licenses if their holders are diagnosed with a condition that makes driving dangerous. Sergei Leonov, head of the State Duma Committee on Health, announced this in an interview with TASS .
According to him, a real-time monitoring system is currently being developed, which involves integrating medical databases with those of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. As soon as the system receives information about a driver's medical contraindications, a signal is automatically sent to the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate to revoke their license without specifying a specific diagnosis.
The deputy noted that previously, drivers could continue driving until their license expired, even if they developed serious illnesses, including mental disorders. Leonov expressed confidence that society would support the change, emphasizing that similar measures apply to gun owners and individuals with alcohol addiction.
The development of health monitoring systems, according to the parliamentarian, is focused on improving real-time information exchange rather than increasing the frequency of medical examinations. Digital healthcare systems provide the necessary information for crime prevention in the public interest.
Russians were previously told how to extend the New Year holidays in 2026.
