During the period of abnormal heat, Russian residents are advised to optimize the use of air conditioners by setting the temperature to 24-26 degrees, which will help reduce housing and communal services costs, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Construction and Housing and Communal Services Sergei Kolunov told RIA Novosti.
According to him, the main source of expenses in the heat is the operation of air conditioners and fans, so it is important to optimize their operation. You can set the temperature at 24-26 degrees - this is comfortable for work and everyday life, and, unlike 20 degrees, it significantly saves electricity.
The MP also recommended using an air conditioner with a timer and an automatic temperature maintenance function so that the device only turns on when the room heats up above a set value. In addition, he said, it is critical to regularly clean the air conditioner filters for energy-efficient operation.
He also reminded about natural cooling methods – opening windows early in the morning and late in the evening to naturally reduce the temperature without putting a load on the network. During the day, you can close curtains or blinds to block the heating of the rooms. You can also place pots with tall plants near the windows – this will reduce heat gain.
Kolunov also advises to provide thermal insulation that will keep the coolness inside and limit the penetration of external heat. To do this, you need to insulate the windows and doors to reduce heat inflow from the street and maintain the microclimate in the room. It is also worth using household appliances rationally: do cooking, washing and other tasks in the morning or evening hours to avoid additional heating of the home during the peak heat.
