All About Hilary Swank’s Husband, Philip Schneider
Hilary Swank met her husband, Philip Schneider, in 2015. They were set up on a blind date that ended up being pretty epic. They dated for less than two years before getting engaged, then welcomed their twins, Ohm and Aya, in spring 2023.
Schneider is often by Swank’s side on the red carpet and at important events. But they rarely share much information about one another, keeping their relationship and their kids’ lives very private. Here’s what is known about Philip Schneider and his marriage to Hilary Swank.
Schneider is an entrepreneur, focusing on “social venture,” meaning he invests in projects with a positive social aspect. He and Swank have a lot of interests in common, per their 2018 wedding story in Vogue, like camping, hiking, and communing with the wild.
In fact, when Schneider turned 50, they celebrated together with six days off the grid in Alaska. Swank told People in 2022, “We went fly-fishing, hiking, exploring, looking for wildlife. Nature is my favorite, and Alaska is like nature on steroids.”
They decided to have a wedding outdoors because of their shared love of nature, too.
“We found exactly what we were looking for at the Santa Lucia Preserve in Carmel, California,” Swank explained. “It’s a stunning private community surrounded by 20,000 acres of conservancy and an intimate redwood grove populated with trees that are over 800 years old.”
They’re also both sports fans. In 2017, they attended the Wimbledon Championships as one of their first public dates and were seen again in 2018 at the French Open.
Swank and Schneider were set up on a blind date by Victoria Vantoch, the wife of Supernatural star Misha Collins. Collins and Schneider are very close friends, and the actor even read a poem at their wedding ceremony.
Swank shared of their first date, “We met at 10:00 A.M. and parted ways at 11:00 P.M. We clearly enjoyed our time!”
During an interview with Drew Barrymore in 2022, Swank joked that her husband says it was only a “blind date for one.”
Barrymore then shared a clip of the couple practicing a tap dance they eventually performed at their wedding, and they’re perfectly in sync.
They got engaged in 2016 after dating for about a year and a half. Schneider proposed while they were on a trip in Colorado.
“We stumbled upon a beautiful sanctuary deep in the mountains,” Swank told Vogue. “It had a stunning waterfall that cascades down to rustic cabins built in the 1800s surrounded by beautiful pines and big skies. One evening, Philip dropped to his knee in front of the waterfall and proposed—he sweetly made sure my dogs were nearby so they could bear witness!”
In August 2018, they were married in California.
“It was timeless. There is just no other way to describe it,” Swank said. “I was overwhelmed with such gratitude and thanks to be marrying the man of my dreams and to see all the people we love together in the middle of such a profound setting. It was truly a dream come true.”
The couple welcomed their twins in April 2023. When the fraternal brother and sister were 10-months-old, Swank was interviewed about parenthood while on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Fallon asked about her experience, and Swank gushed it was “the best in the whole wide world.”
“Yes, it’s more joy, more fun and more exhausting,” she shared. “It’s more everything than I ever thought it would be. It’s more glorious, it’s the most extraordinary thing in the world.”
Fallon asked if her kids were speaking yet.
“My daughter...the first thing she started ever saying, she sounded like a mourning dove,” said Swank. “Like just a beautiful little mourning dove. And then it turned into a growl. She growls, but like really commits.”
Her son was just “learning everything.”
In February 2024, they revealed the twins’ names: Aya and Ohm.
After sharing the names, she told Entertainment Tonight, “I met a Syrian refugee when I went to Lebanon, a young girl who...had been through so much. She was so brave and so courageous and so full of light, especially under her circumstances and what they were, how they were living, where they were moving. My husband and I were like, ‘If we ever have a daughter, I think we should name her after Aya.’”
They chose Ohm because the word is “considered the first universal sound and the sound that unites people,” and it “seemed fitting.”
Just after Christmas 2024, Swank talked more about parenting on the Today show.
“Last year was technically their first Christmas, but they were completely unaware. This time, they saw a tree with lights,” she said, adding that were stunned by it.
“Everything is new again,” she said of being a mom. “You hear that, but until you experience it you’re like, ‘What does that even mean?’ But now I know.... It makes every time of year more special. Every day with them is so divine, and it’s such a blessing. And I feel so grateful, and I’m so happy.”
She shared a holiday greeting just before the new year in December 2024 that showed one of the twins taking in the tree.
