THE RUNDOWN

  • Taylor Swift revealed her engagement ring after announcing her engagement to Travis Kelce on August 26.
  • The ring appears to be an antique cushion-cut or old mine-cut diamond with one-of-a-kind design elements.
  • Jewelers who spoke to ELLE about the ring estimated its worth at over $250,000.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged—and the singer didn’t make the world wait to see a detailed look at her giant cushion-cut diamond engagement ring, a custom piece designed by Travis Kelce with New York jeweler Artifex Fine Jewelry. Swift included a close-up shot in her announcement post.

The piece is truly one-of-a-kind, jewelers tell ELLE.

“Taylor’s ring is very much in step with the desire for individuality and artistry in engagement rings,” says Steph Mazuera, who founded her own namesake brand that creates made-to-order engagement rings.

Ann Grimmett, Jared Jewelers’ vice president of merchandising, believes it has “an heirloom look that is both romantic and dreamy. It’s traditional with a modern flair.”

And Lauren Boc, founder and CEO of Hera Fine Jewelry, highlights its distinct design: “Many celebrity engagement rings are just a huge diamond with a generic setting, but this design is really distinctive and doesn’t look like everyone else’s ring,” she says. “I love that Taylor’s ring has a prominent but not outrageously large diamond and a genuinely thoughtful and unique design.”

Boc, Grimmett, and Mazuera spoke with ELLE about the details of Swift’s ring, its estimated value, and how it both reflects and sets bridal jewelry trends.

Swift and Kelce chose what appears to be an antique cushion-cut or old mine-cut diamond.

“This looks like a very elongated, antique cushion-cut diamond with a wide tapered band that has graduated round diamond accents on the shoulders,” Boc says.

She elaborates: “The cushion-cut diamond is definitely more elongated than the average. The antique cut and elongated ratio give the ring a really unique look and a lot of presence on her hand. I don’t think the diamond is a true antique based on the shape, but it does look like an antique or old mine-cut style, which means it has wider, chunkier facets than a modern brilliant cut cushion and a visible culet in the center of the stone.”

Mazuera agrees it could be an elongated antique cushion-cut or old mine-cut, explaining, “Antique cut diamonds have fewer, larger facets than modern stones. They have less crushed-ice sparkle, and return more reflective flashes of light. Antique cuts are super romantic; most true antique diamonds were cut by hand in workshops under candle light hundreds of years ago.”

Mazuera shared a photo of an antique cut versus a modern cut diamond for reference:

Grimmett believes it is an elongated old mine-cut diamond.

Swift’s center stone is between 7 and 12 carats and worth at least $250,000.

Swift’s stone is not small by any means. Grimmett estimates its size at 7 to 9 carats, while Boc believes it is “a roughly 8-carat elongated antique cushion-cut diamond,” adding, “Antique cushion cuts in this very elongated shape are rare, to the point that they’re quite difficult to price. I would estimate the value around $500,000.”

Grimmett puts the ring’s value between $250,000 and $500,000.

Swift’s center diamond isn’t her ring’s only showstopper. The ring includes two side stones. “The side stones look to be a half-moon plus a small round which contribute to its more vintage look,” Grimmett says.

Swift’s wide band appears to include hand-engraved details.

“This is almost certainly a one-of-a-kind piece, likely detailed entirely by hand,” Mazuera explains. “The hand-cut details on the ring’s shank are especially notable.”

Boc praises the ring’s setting: “From [Swift’s] photo, it looks like it has a thin wall of metal surrounding the stone, almost like a metal halo, as well as prongs. It’s very romantic and feels a lot like Taylor to me.

“The metal halo and prong combination—if I’m right about that element of the setting—is also very unusual. We have made a few of those metal halos for custom clients at Hera, and the whole team always loves the finished look. All of these design elements combined make for a very romantic, one-of-a-kind engagement ring.”

Mazuera offers a similar take: “The diamond is set with prongs, yet some metal remains visible around the stone, creating a beautifully framed effect. The overall design feels vintage inspired, with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship.”

Swift’s ring taps into elongated stone and gold trends—but with its own twist.

Swift’s good friend Selena Gomez also has an elongated center stone (a marquise), a very popular choice. “Hera’s clients have been requesting the major elements of this ring; elongated cushion cuts, and wide, tapered bands with some detail are both very popular,” Boc says.

Mazuera agrees: “The design aligns with current trends toward elongated diamond shapes, especially antique cushion cuts; vintage-inspired settings; and highly unique, customized pieces.

“I think more people are craving engagement rings that feel deeply personal to them, pieces that can’t be replicated or defined as trendy,” she adds, noting Swift’s ring reflects this perfectly.

Grimmett sums it up, saying Swift’s ring showcases “recent trends in bold gold looks, fancy cuts, and oversized elongated stones.”
