Kim Kardashian on Ending Her Marriage: ‘I Had to Save Myself to Be a Better Mom’

Kim Kardashian is opening up about her ex-husband Kanye West.

On October 15, the Skims founder appeared on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, where she discussed the current state of their relationship and how they co-parent their four children: North, 12, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 6.

“I raise the kids full-time,” she said. “They live with me, and I welcome a great, healthy relationship with my kids and their dad. He knows that. I push for it all the time, but I also protect them when it’s time for that, and it goes in waves and phases. It’s a lot of work.”

When Cooper asked when West last saw the kids, Kardashian paused before responding, “Whenever he’ll call for them and ask. It’s probably been a couple months since we’ve heard from him.”

As for how she explains those “disappointing” moments to their children, Kardashian said, “They always knew that he had a big life traveling before and was always on tour and all of that and that he lives in different countries all the time and loves to live all over the place. So we manage it really well. They love their lives and their routine and schedule. My job as their mom is just to make sure they stick to their routine and that they’re healthy and happy.”

Kardashian also revealed that she chose to end her marriage when it began to affect her ability to be a good parent.

“Once my mental health starts to get affected and then I can’t parent the way that I need to and I can’t be present and focused, then there’s gotta be one of us that can,” she said. “And I had to save myself in order to be a better mom for everyone. And I think when everyone’s older, they’ll be able to understand it and see that all.”

Kardashian and West married in 2014. She filed for divorce in 2021, and it was finalized in 2022.
