Taylor Swift wrapped up her The Life of a Showgirl release week appearances with a guest spot on Late Night with Seth Meyers this evening. The pop star, who has spoken in detail about her fiancé, Travis Kelce, throughout this press tour, revealed a bit more about their wedding festivities—and how she’s about to turn her attention toward planning in earnest.
Host Seth Meyers expressed his concerns about Swift and Kelce’s pending wedding invitations, explaining, “Because I think everyone has an expectation that you are going to put a lot of thought into it. And I feel like I just gave you permission to just send an e-vite.”
Swift replied, “Yeah, I haven’t even thought about this yet so I’m glad you’re bringing this up.”
Meyers apologized for pushing another task to the top of Swift’s to-do list after an already busy season for the singer. Swift brushed it off, saying, “No! No, it’s fine! We’re toward the tail end of release week, and it’s like it’s about time that I start thinking about it.”
Swift has spoken in multiple interviews this past week about the status of her wedding plans. She and Kelce have already made a few major decisions, she’s revealed—like the fact that they plan to host a big destination wedding. But as she recently told BBC Radio 2’s Scott Mills, “I’m doing one thing at a time. Right now, I’m doing this [press tour]. I don’t know [if I’m hiring a wedding planner]. Right now, I’m just stoked about the idea that I get to marry this person. So I’m going to think about that, and then I’m going to put out this album, and then I’m going to think about other things after that.”
Swift didn’t share much additional information about her relationship with Kelce during her Seth Meyers interview. Instead, she revealed that, when Kelce would watch Swift’s Eras Tour performances from the VIP tent, he would later give the singer “tea” about the celebrities he’d interact with. Swift even shared an anecdote with Meyers about how Kelce mistook Hugh Grant’s wife, Anna Elisabet Eberstein, for Greta Gerwig at one particular show.
Earlier this week, Swift spoke to Ryan Seacrest about how she is still figuring out where to draw the line on what she publicly shares about her and Kelce’s relationship.
Regarding Kelce’s recent proposal specifically, she said, “I share so much of our relationship with the world that the moment that that happened, it’s like, I’ll have it forever and that will always be mine. There’s so much that is shared with the world...[because] we’re both very public-facing people and both of our career paths involve entertaining people.”
Swift added that, while both she and Kelce acknowledge the public’s interest in their romance, they deliberately set boundaries on what they reveal. “We’re very kind of relaxed about things in a way, but we also have to—I gotta figure out ways to make sure that I do have things that are just between us,” she said. “And thankfully, we do have a lot of those things, and that moment in particular, is one that’s always just going to be ours.”
The singer shared details of Kelce’s proposal during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday. Kelce apparently popped the question shortly after taping an episode of New Heights—the podcast he shares with his brother, Jason Kelce—with Swift as a guest. While they were recording, he had his backyard transformed into a secret garden, perfect for the occasion.
“The podcast was just sort of a distraction, sort of a ruse, to keep me not looking out the windows of the house,” she said. “Every time he does the podcast, it’s not like he blacks out all the windows, like…there [were] blackout drapes on every single window of the whole house. He was top secret about this, and I really appreciate that. But then afterward I kind of realized, he’s walking around sort of nervous about the podcast. He’s like, ‘My heart is racing. I just really want—I know how much this means to you. I really want this to be what you hoped it would be,’ because we’d been talking about doing the podcast and announcing the album. He’s like, ‘My heart’s racing,’ and I’ve never seen this dude nervous ever. He’s not a nervous person.”
When they finished taping, “he was like, ‘Do you want to go and just walk around the backyard and have a glass of wine?’” Swift said. “And I’m like, ‘I’m always going to want to do that.’ And then I realized exactly why all of the windows were curtained and why he was nervous. It was the best-possible-case scenario.”
