Tyla’s Complete Dating History

Tyla’s Complete Dating History

South African pop star Tyla rose to fame in 2023 with her Grammy-winning single “Water.” But despite her meteoric rise, the singer has kept her personal life mostly out of the spotlight.

While the singer hasn’t publicly confirmed any relationships, she has occasionally shared her views on love and dating. Here’s a complete look at everything Tyla has said about her love life so far.

During an appearance on Apple Music’s The Dotty Show, Tyla shared which celebrity she would’ve wanted to take her to prom. “Rema would be cute. Vibes, yeah,” she said.

When the host mentioned that she and Rema had been photographed together in Los Angeles the year before, Tyla laughed off the dating speculation. “That was so dramatic,” she said. “After that situation, I realized you can’t trust everything you see….We’re just friends.”

Tyla was seen dancing with Travis Scott at the GQ Men of the Year party in Los Angeles. The sighting came after the two collaborated on the remix of “Water” and sparked some dating rumors.

In February 2024, Tyla subtly shut down romance speculation, telling Complex, “I was at the GQ event, and Travis was one of the Men of The Year so we were celebrating. They played the remix, and we were vibing. He’s such a cool person. I didn’t know what to expect before I met him, I was kind of nervous. He’s so chill, so funny, so cool.”

In one of Complex’s TikToks, an interviewer asked Tyla if she had time for dating with her busy career. She quipped, “It’s not looking good, just know it’s not looking good.”

She revealed how she defined love in the interview, saying, “Whenever I think of love, I just think about my family because I just feel like it’s the most pure form. It’s a natural love that you can’t make happen; you just love that person. I don’t know how to explain it; it’s just purely a feeling.”

Tyla confirmed she was single and focused on her career in a video interview with media personality KC Chopz. “Yes, I’m single. I’m not playing with all of that right now. Focusing on the prize,” she said.

She talked a little about her ideal partner, saying she prefers a boyfriend who spends time playing video games rather than one who frequents nightclubs. “Video games all day. A club guy? No,” she said. “I rather that than a club every weekend. At least I know we’re chilling; we’re home. I also love being at home and chilling. I’m not a gamer, but I like playing games.”

She also shared that she would pick love over money and smart over funny in a potential partner.

“Funny is nice, but when it’s too much it gets irritating,” she added. “You know when people just don’t know when to stop? I don’t like clown funny. I like natural, like you’re not trying too hard, it just happens. That type of funny.”

After taking home the Grammy for African Music Performance for “Water,” Tyla shut down speculation that she was dating Chris Brown after the two posed together at her birthday party the month before.

“Anyone I’m seen with, I’m dating that person. I don’t know why, but I’m very single,” she told Hollywood Unlocked CEO Jason Lee on the Grammys red carpet. She stressed again, “I’m very single.”

During Tyla’s appearance on Kai Cenat’s livestream, Cenat asked her out. “Are you asking me for real? Don’t do that,” she said. When he insisted he was serious about the date, Tyla replied, “But we friends though.”

In an interview with Capital XTRA, Tyla revealed she’d rather win the lottery tomorrow than find true love today. “I have enough time for the true love one,” she quipped.

She also explained her approach to flirting and attraction. “I don’t use pickup lines,” she said. “I just make eye contact, and it works anytime. I feel like girls don’t need to say anything.”

She revealed that her biggest turn-on is “just a man. Like a dominant man.” Her biggest turn-off is “guys that are funny all the time. Like, I love funny guys but when they don’t know when to be serious it’s like ugh.”

Tyla told The Breakfast Club that she isn’t a fan of people sliding into her DMs to try to make a move on her. “I don’t answer DMs like that,” she said. “If I want to work with you then I’ll answer, just on work stuff. If you want to [ask me out], I have to see you in person, say hi, stuff like that. But I don’t even like that, I’m very different. I don’t like a lot of things.”

Tyla sparked dating rumors with rapper Geo when fans noticed they were in Japan at the same time. They both posted Instagrams on the same day.

On September 3, they revealed the reason why: They were shooting Tyla’s music video for “Breathe Me.” In the video, they’re seen dancing, eating together, and singing karaoke during a trip to Japan.

Tyla poked fun at the dating rumors when she shared the music video on X, formerly known as Twitter. She tweeted, “But we friends tho…”

Tyla said she is single during Nyla Symone’s We Need to Talk podcast. “I don’t really date. Not yet,” she said.

When Symone brought up photos of her holding hands with singer Rema, Tyla responded, “Everybody just thought that. That was literally my first paparazzi experience. We’re just friends, I went to his show, and he happened to hold my hand and obviously people will interpret it the way they do.”

Tyla added she didn’t feel like Rema would be her next love interest. “I don’t know. I just see him as a friend, to be honest.”

During an interview with The Beat 99.9 F.M., the host asked Tyla what someone could do to get her attention. “I think the best way is not to try,” she said. “You can always tell when someone’s trying too hard, it’s just off-putting. Girls like the guy that’s chill, that’s not showing attention, he’s just there. Do that.”

She also shared her views on how guys should start a conversation: “You have to wait for the girls to give you a signal that it’s okay. Don’t just go.”

“You have to just feel it, it’s in the eyes,” she continued. “For real, relax, chill. It will happen. You just have to make eye contact. You must be like you’re in a music video, and if the person is interested, you’ll know.”

Tyla shared her stance on women making the first move: “No. Girls, never send the bottle over. The guy needs to do the work.”

On The Jennifer Hudson Show, Hudson asked Tyla to describe her love life in three words. “My, love, life,” she said, dodging the question.

She could see herself on a reality show though, just “definitely not Love Is Blind, maybe Survivor. Maybe Love Island. Maybe I can be the new hot bombshell.”

She also revealed her first celebrity crushes: “I had a crush on two people, I think,” she said. “Justin Bieber for sure and Morris Chestnut.”

Rema shut down Tyla dating rumors in his April 2025 Rolling Stone cover story. “Tyla’s family,” he said. “We’re good friends because I’ve been friends with Tyla even before everything. Tyla and I are not dating and never have.”

“If I want to move that way, I would express it, but I never did because that was not my intent,” he added.
