THE RUNDOWN

  • Justin Bieber sang about how he handles time apart from Hailey during conflict in the Swag track “Daisies.”
  • The song dives into their history and underscores Justin’s commitment to his wife.
  • Hailey posted a subtle reaction to “Daisies” on her Instagram Story shortly after it was released.

Justin Bieber hasn’t shied away from detailing the ups and downs he and Hailey face in his six-year marriage on his album Swag. In “Daisies,” he explores how he handles the time they spend apart—especially during conflict.

In the first verse and chorus, he sings, “You leave me on read, babe, but I still get the message / Instead of a line, it’s three dots, but I can connect them / And if it ain’t right, babe, you know I respect it / But if you need time, just take your time / Honey, I get it, I get it, I get it / Way you got me all in my head / Think I’d rather you in my bed / Whatever it is, you know I can take it / I’m countin’ the days, how many days ’til I can see you again?”

He revisits their past in the second verse, singing, “Don’t wanna be friends, just skin-to-skin, I wanna get closer, and closer, and closer.”

In February 2020, Hailey told ELLE that she and Justin reconnected in June 2018—and ultimately started dating. They got engaged a month later and married in September 2018.

“We ended up being at this church conference together in Miami, and it was the first time we’d seen each other in a while,” she recalled. “I remember we were hanging out and I was like, ‘Listen, I’m really, really happy for us to be friends again. I want us to always be cool and be friends.’ He was like, ‘Yeah, here’s the thing: We’re not going to be friends.’ And I was like, ‘Oh. Is that so?’ I think we were both a little unsure about what was going on in the very beginning. It was familiar territory, but when a lot of time goes by, it’s like getting to know a new person.”

“Daisies” touches on their history and also suggests there’s some truth to reports that Justin and Hailey have faced relationship challenges. But much like his other Swag track “Walking Away,” it ultimately highlights Justin’s commitment to his wife.

Hailey, for her part, has no issue with the lyrics being out there. The model gave her stamp of approval to the song, posting an Instagram Story of herself listening to “Daisies”:

On June 24, a source told Us Weekly that while Justin and Hailey were going through a “difficult time,” the couple would “do anything to make it [their marriage] work.”

“They believe they are soulmates and meant for each other,” the source added.

Justin’s lyrics echo that sentiment, offering an honest look into his feelings for Hailey. Take a closer look at them and listen to the song below:
