Berlin Art Week: Is this still important or can it be done away with?

Berlin Art Week is approaching its climax. The program has long since become overwhelming. Will it still be there next year? A brief tour.
The first question is an existential one: whether Art Week will even continue next year. The most interesting rumor surrounding the art week concerns a letter sent by the cultural administration to previously funded art institutions, in which future funding is described as currently uncertain. Berlin Art Week (BAW) is organized annually by Kulturprojekte Berlin and is receiving €300,000 this year from the Senate Department for Culture and €150,000 from the Senate Department for Economic Affairs. In addition, there is money from private sponsors; the main sponsor is Berliner Volksbank, whose financial contribution Berlin Art Week is not disclosing. If the main chunk of €300,000 were no longer available, could BAW even continue? In response to an inquiry from the Berliner Zeitung, the cultural administration stated: "The final decision on this will be made during the parliamentary debate on the Senate's draft budget."
